Meet Marli

I started my Water Babies journey as a client with my infant when she was 8 months old. I enjoyed the sense of community and the opportunity to learn skills to support her swimming and love of the water. As well as some much-wanted bonding time for us.

Having worked with babies, toddlers and families for over 10 years outside of the pool, I wanted to expand into Water Babies to gain experience with families in new and meaningful ways.

What is your favourite part about teaching?

When I started, it was certainly about helping babies and toddlers build confidence in the water. However, I’ve also loved the chance to support the adults in their lives – helping them gain confidence too, as I show them how to encourage positive associations with swimming for their children. I especially enjoy working with adults who come with little to no swimming confidence themselves. I always try my best to make my classes as welcoming and inclusive as possible.

What’s your most memorable moment as a teacher?

This past summer, I got to see a little swimmer push past their fears of the water that had been limiting their skill growth, and now they are flourishing and asking their carer to let them try the skills independently. Encouraging this little one over the last year, little by little, has turned them into a confident and passionate swimmer.
