Meet Sophia
Working with young children from newborns to infants and toddlers has always been something I’m passionate about, and growing up as a competitive swimmer, I’ve always loved the water, so Water Babies was perfect for me!
I’ve really enjoyed my time teaching Water Babies lessons in Halifax, and I’m excited to make a splash with the families in Kingston as I pursue my Bachelor of Education for middle and high school teaching at Queen’s University.
What is your favourite part about teaching?
My favourite part about teaching is definitely seeing the little ones develop a genuine love for the water. It’s such an exciting and rewarding experience to watch them grow, not only in their swimming abilities but also in their confidence and comfort.
Seeing them go from nervous or unsure to splashing and practicing their skills happily in the pool is such a sweet transformation. I also really enjoy meeting all the wonderful families in our swimming lessons; their enthusiasm makes every class so much fun!
What is your favourite Water Babies skill?
My favourite skill is the 1,2,3 swim because it can be introduced at a young age and then developed as swimmers build confidence and progress through the levels. It’s really rewarding to see swimmers become comfortable with the skill and eventually begin swimming short distances independently!

How our lessons work

Supportive lessons
Taught in a friendly group atmosphere, one carer per child and one of our teachers in the pool in each lesson.

30 minutes long
Lessons take place each week, so it’s a wonderful way to bond with your baby away from the craziness of life.

Have fun!
Skills are taught through song, play and repetition, so there’s never a dull moment when you’re in the pool.

Tailored progress
Our teachers will tailor each lesson to your little one’s ability, so it’s only when they’re ready, we’re ready.

What we’ll teach you
Our program helps your little one develop essential swimming skills, confidence, and water safety from day one. We’ll teach you to teach your baby to swim.
- Water Familiarity – Helping your baby feel comfortable in the water.
- Natural Reflexes – Developing instincts into core aquatic skills.
- Independent Swimming – Learning different strokes and swimming freely.
- Water Safety – Essential skills to stay safe in and around water.
- Confidence Building – Encouraging self-assurance in and out of the pool.
We follow Swim England’s framework, ensuring structured, expert-led progress. You’ll be amazed at what your little one can achieve!

Amazing lessons that build confidence!
My daughter and I have been loving Water Babies! We started when she was 6 months, and now at a year old, we’re still going strong … Also the safety skills that we work on multiple times a class, every week, will soon become second nature and that gives me great peace of mind.
– Colleen and Reese (Toronto)

We love Water Babies
It’s a great way to get your little one comfortable in the water and help them learn how to swim (…) The way they use stories, songs, and the other babies in the class, makes it really easy for the parent and the baby to enjoy it.”
– Christopher and Benjamin (Toronto)

Child Development and Safety
“I am an Early Years Teacher and appreciate the developmentally-appropriate lessons (verbal cues, movement, visual cues, and song), adult instructions … [Water Babies] focuses on water safety. This is important to us as parents, especially as we travel as a family of three and have friends with pools.”
– Amy and Oliver (Kingston)
